Fun Approaches To Bedtime Stories

 FUN APPROACHES TO BEDTIME STORIES

We’ve delved into what bedtime stories are and the benefits of bedtime stories. One main benefit was that children would be able to associate reading with relaxation and fun. Now, how do you make bedtime stories fun and engaging? Below we’ll share a few ways to make bedtime stories a memorable and enjoyable time for your little one.

  1. Let your child choose the story

Children tend to be more enthusiastic about reading when the story interests them. Having your child choose the story encourages them to engage and look forward to storytime. Reading books that pique your child’s interests encourages your child to look forward to bedtime stories.

  1. Start with books that are easy to comprehend

Choosing age-appropriate books is an important aspect of making bedtime stories a fun and engaging experience. Begin with books that are simple to comprehend, where your child does not feel like bedtime stories are stressful and make them feel anxious. Gradually you can increase the difficulty of the books based on your child’s age, interest, and progress during bedtime stories.

  1. Act it out

Let your child act out the voices in the story! Is the lion roaring and about to eat the mouse? Then let your child roar. These interactive moments further pique the child’s interests and allows them to have fun while reading. It can also be a method of easily recalling details about the story, which is beneficial to their comprehension of the story.

  1. Have a routine

Having a nightly routine that includes bedtime stories allows children to familiarize themselves with reading daily. This allows them to look forward to bedtime stories daily and even get accustomed to reading daily and making it a part of their routine. This can further encourage reading outside of bedtime stories.

  1. Include snacks

We all love a good snack, right? People have snacks for movie night so why not during bedtime stories? Have your little one grab their favourite snack for their story time. This helps to create a fun and exciting environment that allows your child to be enthusiastic about bedtime stories and reading.

  1. Funny voices

There are countless fascinating people to expose them to, mysterious places to discover, and thrilling activities to take part in. And how these stories sound when you read them aloud is entirely up to you. Bring the story to life by giving the troll a rough, booming voice and the princess a delicate, soft one! Put on your loudest or quietest voice, change your facial expressions, and shout and whisper. Simply adjusting your voice improves the reading experience of your child during bedtime stories.
