What Are Decodable Texts? 

Decodable books are controlled texts that young readers can decode at each level as they develop literacy by sounding out the letters in the text and combining them to form words. Children can put what they have learned into practice by using decodable books. Simply said, they are reading exercises. It is known that a great approach to absorbing information and honing skills is through practice. Books that can be decoded provide reading practice.

Beginning readers who are honing their blending and segmenting abilities and learning the alphabetic code are the target audience for decodable texts. Decodable texts use continuous, understandable text to assist pupils while they practise. The percentage of words in decodable texts that use the letter-sound correlations that children have learned is extremely high. As a pupil gains more understanding of the phonetic code, decodable texts become more difficult. Decodable text can be described as a sort of text used in teaching beginner readers. Words that are congruent with the letter-sound relationships that have been taught to the new reader are gradually incorporated into decodable texts through careful sequencing.

Young readers discover that the alphabetic principle and phonics are both effective when they are given a text that contains decodable words. This information can assist in opening up the world of books. Students may develop the misconception that phonics is random and has little to do with reading if they get explicit, systematic phonics instruction followed by texts that only loosely relate to the same skills. Students instead learn that words can be decoded if clear, systematic phonics teaching is followed with decodable text that contains the majority of the phonetic elements previously taught.

Young readers become less reliant on outside word solvers when given the chance to use their phonetic abilities to connect connected material. An effective reading technique is "blending." We want our kids to be able to rely on these tactics when they come across new words. It is known that effective decoding is the cornerstone of fluent reading. Good reading habits are developed through decodable books.

Caribbean Academy for Reading Intervention and Development where she works assiduously

with children who have reading challenges. She also uses this platform to motivate, inspire and
